Our Pupil Voice team went to Broadstairs and St Peter’s Town Council to observe their Environment Committee meeting. Course Title: BTEC Tech Award in Digital Information Technology

Why should I choose to study Digital information Technology?

Designed specifically for schools, BTEC Tech Awards are Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications. Complementing GCSEs and providing a first glimpse into a professional sector. These qualifications assess students through scenario-based external assessments rather than traditional examination formats.

What will I learn?

The course is made up of three components:

During Component 1, students will explore user interface design and development principles. Investigate how to use project planning techniques to manage a digital project, and discover how to develop and review a digital user interface.

During Component 2, students will explore how data impacts on individuals and organisations, draw conclusions and make recommendations on data intelligence. And use these skills to develop a dashboard using data manipulation tools.

During Component 3, students will explore how modern information technology is evolving, consider legal and ethical issues in data and information sharing. Understand what cyber security is, and how to safeguard against it.

What will be expected of me?

You will be expected to develop critical thinking, analysis and problem-solving skills, through the study of computer system analyses, design and development. For many students, it will be an enjoyable and interesting way to develop these skills, which can be transferred to other subjects and of course applied in day-to-day life.

What skills will I develop?

You will develop practical, transferable skills centred on the development of digital systems. BTEC Tech Awards focus on building skills which will give you the confidence to progress in whatever path you choose.

How will I be assessed?

The course is made up of the three components: two that are internally assessed, worth 60% of the course. The third component is externally assessed; worth 40% of the total course.

Where will this qualification lead me? 

Ideal for learners who want a career in information technology and want to get a broad taste of digital skills. This is a stepping stone to careers like IT Project Management, Technical Support and Cyber Security. The BTEC Technical Award in Digital Information Technology will provide students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge to everyday, and work, contexts. Giving students a great starting point for academic or vocational Post-16 studies, and for future employment.
