July 01st 2026Year Groups
At The Charles Dickens School, every pupil is supported by a dedicated Year Team made up of a Head of Year, Assistant Head of Year and Form Tutor. Together, they provide the day-to-day pastoral care, guidance and encouragement that helps pupils feel known, valued and supported throughout their time at school.
Pupils meet with their tutors every morning from 8.30am to 8.55am. This daily contact gives pupils a consistent and trusted adult in school, helping to build strong relationships, promote positive routines and provide regular opportunities for support. Heads of Year lead weekly assemblies, bringing the whole year group together to strengthen community, connection and shared purpose.
Year Teams are responsible for the pastoral care and wellbeing of all pupils in their year group. They also monitor academic progress, attendance, behaviour and wider development, ensuring that pupils receive the right balance of care, challenge and intervention when needed. Through this work, our CARE values are lived every day: showing Compassion through support and understanding; encouraging Aspiration so pupils aim high; developing Resilience when pupils face challenges; and fostering Enthusiasm for learning, school life and personal growth.
Every pupil should know that they can turn to their tutor, Head of Year or Assistant Head of Year for guidance, reassurance and encouragement. Our Year Teams play a central role in helping pupils feel safe, connected and ready to achieve their best.
Heads of Year, Assistant Heads of Year and tutors maintain regular communication with parents and carers about important matters relating to school life. Parents and carers are encouraged to contact the relevant Year Team if they have any questions or if their child needs support.
