Barton Court Academy Trust Eco Challenge Returns with Continued Environmental Success
Posted on: 01/07/2026Barton Court Grammar School was delighted to host the annual Barton Court Academy Trust (BCAT) Eco Challenge on Tuesday 23 June 2026, bringing together students from all three Trust schools – Barton Manor School, Barton Court Grammar School and The Charles Dickens School – for another inspiring day of environmental collaboration.
Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, the day focused on hands-on ecological investigation and student-led discussion. Students took part in pond fieldwork, including water sampling and testing, which revealed that the pond is largely clear of pollution. They also explored biodiversity more closely by examining pond life under microscopes in the science laboratories, giving them a deeper understanding of local ecosystems.
The event also included presentations, discussions and a Q&A session, enabling students to share ideas and showcase their ongoing commitment to sustainability and climate action.
Congratulations to Barton Manor School, who were crowned winners of this year’s event. The competition was closely contested, with the other two schools finishing not far behind. All students involved represented their schools with confidence and professionalism.
Ms Cardus, BCAT CEO / Executive Headteacher, commented: “All three schools delivered excellent presentations, making it a very difficult decision for the judges. Barton Manor students ultimately stood out due to the high level of participation demonstrated throughout their presentation.”
This year’s challenge comes as all three schools proudly celebrate once again achieving the prestigious Green Flag award, recognising their continued dedication to environmental improvement. In addition, the Trust has been recognised through the Wilder Kent Awards, with Barton Court Grammar School securing a Bronze award – a fantastic achievement that highlights the impact of student-led environmental initiatives across the Trust.
The Eco Challenge continues to demonstrate the power of collaboration between schools, with students working together to share knowledge, develop solutions and strengthen their commitment to protecting the environment.
We look forward to continuing to build on this success in the years to come.
