Cultural Capital 2021

Posted on: 10/12/2021

CDS students have had two days of cultural capital activities. They were off timetable taking part in organised events, giving them essential knowledge to prepare them for future successes.

Included in these events were:

Hospitality & Catering - how to create a Thai green curry with a fragrance stunning to the senses

Dragon’s Den – Business ideas created and presented

Escape Room – Cracking the codes and solving the puzzles to unlock the keys to escape!

STEM – Designing and making an air powered cup balloon car, for racing and measuring speed from time and distance

Year 7 went to see Jack & The Beanstalk in Canterbury!

Year 8 visited Chatham Dockyards

First Aid Training

There were community activities, sustainability classes and Duke of Edinburgh preparation for an expedition next year.  On line presenters hosted a variety of topics from knife crime to fire & rescue.

One team from Dragon’s Den put forward their idea for a business saying:

“We will design an app where you can design rooms by taking existing products and placing them in your rooms to help you design them.  You can then move products around in your bedroom, kitchen and living room. The app will give you costings for purchasing the room you design and will be in partnership with bigger companies of the manufacturers of the products on offer”.

What a great idea!

Miss Lebby, Assistant Headteacher, said "It was great to see our students engaging in learning in altogether different way.  Our aim is to provide enrichment in addition to the traditional academic rigours of school life.  It's excellent to see our students being adaptable and flexible in their thinking!"
