CDS Cultural Capital Days - December 2025
Posted on: 18/12/2025Ofsted defines cultural capital as the "essential knowledge, skills, and experiences children need to become educated citizens and succeed in life, introducing them to the best of human achievement and creativity".
CDS completed the first two Cultural Capital Days of this acamedic year and their pupils embraced a wide range of activities, designed to broaden horizons and encourage new experiences:
- Year 7 enjoyed a trip to the Marlowe Theatre for the pantomime, Snow White, and took on an eco-themed STEM challenge with our science department.
- Year 8 explored cooking on a budget—making flapjacks and pasta—while considering the cost of living. They also created thought-provoking fake news reports and examined their impact on society.
- Year 9 discovered Canterbury’s rich history on a city trail and deepened their understanding of the Holocaust, reflecting on the role of bystanders in shaping the world.
- Year 10 visited the Tate Modern in London and learned about Buddhism, crafting stunning wooden mandalas using pyrography.
- Year 11 focused on Fundamental British Values and Human Rights, while preparing for their next steps by working on post-16 applications.
What an inspiring start to the school year, full of creativity, learning and new perspectives!
