Changes to the school day from September 2018

Posted on: 22/05/2018

Dear Parents/Carers

Re: Change to the end of the school day by 10 minutes from September 2018

The Governors of The Charles Dickens School and BCAT Directors have agreed to the proposal to change the timing of the school day from September 2018. The school day will now finish at 2:50pm instead of 3pm.

Thank you to all staff, students and parents who provided their feedback as part of the consultation process. The changes include a slightly shorter lunch from 40mins to 35 minutes and to combine afternoon registration with period 5 and finish at 2:50pm instead of 3pm.

Timings of the School day from Sept 2018

Registration/Tutor Time/ Assemblies

8:40am – 8:55am

Period 1

8:55am – 9:55am

Period 2

9:55am - 10:55am

Break

10:55am – 11:15am

Period 3

11:15am – 12:15pm

Period 4

12:15pm – 1:15pm

Lunch

1:15pm – 1:50pm

Period 5 (incl. registration)

1:50pm – 2:50pm

This slightly earlier finish time should not create any issues with other local schools as the finish times are still very separate, with St. George’s finishing at 2:30pm and Dane Court at 3:30pm. It is expected that this minor change will have an impact on improving behaviour towards the end of lunch and provide a more settled start to learning at the start of period 5.

Yours sincerely
