Cultural Capital Highlights Across the School
Posted on: 23/03/2026Over the past week, pupils across all year groups engaged in a rich programme of activities designed to broaden their cultural understanding, strengthen key skills, and deepen curriculum knowledge.
Year 7 immersed themselves in the world of Harry Potter through cross-curricular English and Science sessions, which included hands-on (and safely supervised) potion making experiments. They also took part in the Speak It Out Sociology initiative, developing confidence in debate and oracy, and welcomed Crimestoppers for an important session on positive bystander behaviour and responsible citizenship.
Year 8 ventured out to the historic Chatham Dockyard, where they explored the site’s maritime heritage. Back at school, they took part in a Fairtrade chocolate project, producing creative and impressive confectionery as budding chocolatiers.
Year 9 examined how societies are shaped through their study of Wicked the Musical. Through this lens, they explored themes such as identity, propaganda, conflict resolution, and theatre design, enriching both their cultural awareness and critical thinking.
Year 10 tackled global issues in a Model United Nations simulation, representing nations and negotiating collaborative approaches to climate change. They also followed a Rochester history trail to learn more about Charles Dickens and enhanced their employability skills through mock interviews. A special thank you goes to the parent volunteers who generously supported the experience.
Year 11 focused on preparing for life beyond school. Workshops covered interview skills, revision planning, and financial management, ensuring pupils feel confident for their next steps. They also benefited from an insightful talk from Viki Dale of the Financial Conduct Authority on financial safety and responsible decision making.
A fantastic few days of learning, exploration, and skill building for pupils across the school.
